Staxx is a personal finance app operated by Staxx Money LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company ("Staxx," "we," "us"). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what control you have over it.
We've tried to write this plainly. Where something is technical, we say what it actually means.
1. Who we are
Staxx Money LLC
971 US Highway 202N, Ste N
Branchburg, NJ 08876
privacy@staxxmoney.com
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account information. Your email address and password, handled by our authentication provider. We never see your password in readable form.
- Your name, if you provide it during setup.
- Onboarding responses. Optional answers about how you found Staxx and what you're trying to accomplish.
- Budget information you create. Spending categories and limits, recurring bills and their amounts, savings goals and target dates, and your stated monthly income.
Information from your financial institutions
When you connect a bank account, we receive from Plaid:
- Transactions — merchant name, amount, date, and pending status
- Account details — account name, type, the last four digits of the account number, institution name, and current and available balances
We never receive or store your bank login credentials. When you connect an account, you enter your credentials directly into Plaid's interface. Plaid returns only a one-time authorization code to us, which we exchange for an access token. Your username and password never pass through Staxx's systems.
Information generated by your use of Staxx
- Derived figures — your safe-to-spend amount, spending pace, and amounts reserved for bills and goals
- Notification preferences — your timezone and which alerts you've enabled
- Device push token — an identifier allowing us to send notifications to your device
What we do not collect
We do not use analytics services. We do not use crash reporting services. We do not collect advertising identifiers, location data, contacts, or device identifiers beyond the push token described above.
3. The Staxx website
This policy also covers staxxmoney.com, our marketing site. The only information we collect there is an email address, and only when you type it into the waitlist form and submit it. Nothing else — no name, no account, no form of sign-in.
We use a waitlist email for exactly one purpose: to tell you once, by email, when Staxx is available on iPhone. It is not a newsletter. We do not sell waitlist emails, share them with advertisers or data brokers, or use them for advertising of any kind.
How long we keep it. Waitlist emails are deleted after the launch announcement has been sent. You can have yours removed sooner at any time by emailing privacy@staxxmoney.com. Waitlist emails are stored with the same infrastructure provider that hosts the app's data, described above, and are readable only by us.
Tracking. The website uses no analytics service, no tracking pixels, and no advertising cookies. Three things do happen that we should name plainly, because your browser contacts other servers for them: fonts are loaded from Google Fonts; a small "built with" badge is loaded from our hosting platform; and our hosting provider processes ordinary server request logs, which include IP addresses, as part of serving the site. Those providers see your IP address and browser details in the course of delivering that content. Nothing on the site profiles you, follows you across other sites, or builds an advertising audience.
4. How we use your data
We use your data to:
- Calculate and display your safe-to-spend number and related figures
- Keep your transactions current by syncing with your connected accounts
- Send the notifications you've enabled
- Respond to your support requests
- Maintain and improve the service
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your data. We do not use your financial information for advertising, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. The transactions you make, the budgets you set, and the goals you save toward play no role in any advertising activity.
5. Who we share data with
Service providers
| Provider | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | All account and financial data described above | Database, authentication, and server infrastructure |
| Plaid | Bank credentials (entered directly into Plaid, never through us); we call Plaid's API using your access token | Connecting to your financial institutions and retrieving transactions |
| Expo Push, and Apple or Google notification services | Push token and notification content | Delivering notifications to your device |
| Apple | Subscription and payment information | Processing your subscription. We never see your payment details. |
Plaid's privacy practices are described at plaid.com/legal.
Notification content
Notifications sent to your device may contain dollar amounts. For example, a notification may say how much is safe to spend this month. This text passes through Expo's push service and then Apple's or Google's notification infrastructure to reach your device. If you would prefer that dollar figures not leave our systems this way, you can disable notifications in the app.
Other disclosures
We may disclose data if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Staxx, our users, or others. If Staxx is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Security
We take security seriously, and we want to be precise about what protections exist rather than making broad claims.
What protects your data
- Access controls. Every table containing your data enforces row-level security, meaning your account can only ever read and write its own records. Plaid access tokens, webhook records, and notification state are locked down further — no user account can read them by any path.
- Encryption in transit. All communication between the app and our servers uses TLS.
- Encryption at rest. Our database provider encrypts stored data at rest.
- Server-side isolation. Plaid access tokens are never sent to the app. All calls to Plaid happen on our servers.
- Webhook verification. Incoming notifications from Plaid are cryptographically verified before we act on them.
What you should also know
- Encryption at rest and in transit is provided by our infrastructure provider's platform. We have not implemented additional application-level encryption on individual data fields.
- Staxx stores a copy of your budget data on your device so the app works quickly and offline. This data sits inside the app's protected storage area and relies on your device's operating system protections.
- Staff with administrative access to our infrastructure can technically access user data. We access it only when necessary to operate the service — for example, when you contact us about a data problem — or with your consent.
No system is perfectly secure. We continue to strengthen these protections over time.
7. Your choices and rights
Access your data. You can view all of your transactions, categories, bills, and goals in the app at any time.
Correct your data. You can edit your income, categories, bills, goals, and transaction categorizations directly in the app.
Disconnect a bank. You can disconnect any connected institution from the app. When you do, we instruct Plaid to revoke our access and we delete our record of that connection and its associated accounts. Transactions already imported are retained unless you delete your account.
Delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app, under Account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
When you delete your account, we first instruct Plaid to revoke our access to each connected financial institution, then delete your profile, transactions, categories, bills, goals, budget data, notification settings, and connected institution records. We may retain limited information where required by law.
If you're unable to access the app, you can also request deletion by emailing privacy@staxxmoney.com from the email address associated with your account. We will verify your identity before processing the request.
Deleting your Staxx account does not cancel your subscription. Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Cancel through your device's Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions before deleting your account.
Notifications. You can disable any or all notifications in the app, or turn them off entirely in your device settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding your personal data. Contact privacy@staxxmoney.com and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.
8. Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. We do not currently delete data on a fixed schedule; your transaction history remains available to you for as long as you use Staxx.
When you delete your account, your data is removed from our systems as described above, except where retention is required by law.
Our infrastructure provider retains server logs, which may contain account identifiers, according to their own retention schedule. Plaid retains data according to its own policy.
9. Children
Staxx is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact privacy@staxxmoney.com.
10. Where your data is stored
Staxx's infrastructure is located in the United States. If you use Staxx from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
